Dr. Hüseyin Kami BÜYÜKÖZER
As in all other areas, Muslims must act in accordance with the commandments of Allah Almighty to maintain their health and seek healing from illness. The despair experienced for years by our brothers and sisters who want to comply with the commandments of Islam and seek halal and tayyib medicine has deeply saddened me.
Since 2004, I have been working to raise public awareness, writing letters to the Ministry of Health, and organizing sessions on this issue at international conferences to find solutions to our Muslim brothers and sisters’ search for halal and tayyib medicine.
Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Certainly, Allah did not grant you healing in what He has forbidden you.” (Bukhari) In light of the hadiths, we know that Allah Almighty does not provide a cure for any illness in haram products. It is our duty as Muslims to seek halal alternatives for the cure of illnesses.
Our efforts have finally borne fruit. A pharmaceutical manufacturer has applied to GIMDES for certification. The samples collected have been sent to the laboratory for analysis. We eagerly await the results. I wanted to share with you as soon as possible this new development, which will address the needs of many of our brothers and sisters seeking halal medicine.
