DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS BEING TAUGHT TO OUR CHILDREN IN THE NAME OF LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE?

Dr. Hüseyin BÜYÜKÖZER – Elman NECEFZADE

Have you ever had the opportunity to examine the foreign language curricula in our state or private schools operating with the permission of our government?

As GIMDES, we have examined them!

We are unknowingly destroying our generation. After what we have seen, we say, we must say ‘Stop!’ to the Degeneration of Identity and Morality.

We want to bring this destruction to light, starting with English education, which is the most widely taught subject.

Today, English education, provided in many educational institutions in our country from preschool to university, is often seen only as teaching a foreign language. However, when the textbooks, reading materials, and supplementary materials used are examined, it is clearly seen that lifestyles that do not align with our Islamic and national values are being secretly conveyed to our children and young people.

In these contents; The presentation of forbidden elements like alcohol, beer, and wine as ordinary parts of daily life, the normalization of illicit relationships, the transmission of obscene language and visuals as a cultural element, the idealization of clubs and bars as centers of social life, and the teaching that bringing alcoholic beverages as gifts when visiting someone is a common practice are just some of the many examples. Furthermore, the concept of a “gap year,” prevalent in the West, presents a lifestyle without purpose, without responsibility, and largely frivolous as an attractive option for young people.

All of this represents an extremely dangerous direction for children and young people who are in the most sensitive period of their moral and personality development. The issue is not merely an educational choice; it is a matter of protecting faith, identity, and the vision of civilization.

So what is the solution?

The solution lies not in rejecting foreign languages, but in teaching them with our own values, our own conceptual world, and our own moral understanding. English and other foreign languages can be taught with content and methods that support, rather than harm, the development of an Islamic personality.

In this regard, Darul Halal Madrasah, one of the Dunya Halal Foundation’s important educational projects, offers a healthy and exemplary model. Language education at Darul Helal Madrasah is conducted with the following approach:

• Centered on ethics and manners,
• Through content compatible with Islamic values,
• Without normalizing what is forbidden, illegitimate, or obscene,
• Treating language solely as a means of communication, not as a tool for cultural imposition.

The language education provided here prioritizes students remaining at peace with their own identities while learning a foreign language, without compromising their faith. Texts, examples, and language patterns are prepared within a framework that considers halal-haram sensitivity, prioritizes family structure, etiquette, privacy, and a sense of responsibility. Thus, young people can both learn the language and maintain their moral and intellectual direction.

The Darul Helal Madrasah model clearly shows us this:

Learning a foreign language is possible; we don’t have to become alienated.

A Call to Families!

In this process, as always, the greatest responsibility falls on our families. Monitoring which books our children read, which examples they are exposed to, and which concepts are instilled in their minds is no longer a choice, but a moral obligation.

And we know that you, our valued parents, who are reading these lines…

You are already aware of these things. You see, feel, and are concerned about what is being taught to your children. This awareness is the strongest starting point for protecting our children’s faith, morals, and identity.
