CURRENT SITUATION AND FUTURE EXPECTATIONS ABOUT THE HALAL AND TAYYIB PRODUCTS IN TURKEY

First of all, it has been a rapidly developing market, which contributed to the development of firms, product types and sectoral distribution of Halal and Tayyib products. This can easily be observed since the initial years of our service. In the beginning, only the exporter firms were applying for GIMDES Halal and Tayyib Certificate, which is followed by many firms and sectors, such as cosmetics, logistics, tourism, and health both for domestic and foreign markets. The necessity of Halal and Tayyib Certificate is understood by the consumers and producers.
Halal Market is a market appealing 2 billion Muslims all over the world with a 3.8 trillion USD, though the Halal certified products compose only 20% of this market with an increasing volume. The demand for Halal certified products by the consumers plays a key role in this increase as well as the Halal Certification Bodies (HCBs) facilitating the process for the producers.
As mentioned above, exporters (especially the food sector) are more prone to obtain Halal certificates from HCBs. The firms having GIMDES certificates have achieved to reach 48 billion USD since 2010 in Turkey. With the increasing amount of certification applications, GIMDES has provided Halal and Tayyib Certificate to 15000 products of 500 firms. It is expected to see an increase in the number of applicants.
In order to make it easy for the consumers to reach GIMDES Halal and Tayyib Certified products, there are 45 Halal Dunya Markets in 30 provinces of Turkey. It is also expected to observe an increase in the number of these markets by the increase of awareness in the society.
