Since its founding, GIMDES has been working to resolve the differences in halal certification and to ensure uniformity in halal certification worldwide by implementing a single standard encompassing all four schools of thought.
The first of these took place at the International Halal and Tayyib Products Conference, held on April 25-26, 2009. The conference’s main theme, “One Voice, Full Unity,” called on Muslims worldwide to unite, unite, and unite around a single halal standard. The conference attracted a total of 23 speakers from Turkey, the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Kyrgyzstan, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and South Africa.
In September of that year, GIMDES President Dr. Hüseyin Kâmi Büyüközer supported the efforts to establish the “European Association of Halal Certifiers,” a platform for reputable certification bodies in Europe to unite and agree on a single halal standard. He expressed his pleasure at seeing the significant fruition of the theme of the conference held in April.
GIMDES has been working to bring together the concerns of all Muslims under a single standard and provide certification services in accordance with all four schools of thought. Since its inception, it has published news on the importance of this issue, organized conferences, and supported institutions seeking to undertake this work.
At the H20 summit, Dr. Hassan Haikal, the new president of BPJPH from Indonesia, emphasized the themes of “Islamic unity, Halal unity, working together, and cooperation,” and expressed the importance of “ending divergences and building strength through unity,” demonstrating a consensus on the issues GIMDES has championed since its inception.
Dr. Hüseyin Kâmi Büyüközer stated that he would be pleased to share the work carried out over the years on this issue as GIMDES and WHC with our Muslim brothers who want to unite to ensure our halal food security, and that his door is open to all Muslim brothers who want to receive information about these efforts.
