The tenth day of the month of Muharram is the Day of Ashura (Today). The month of Muharram is one of the four important months mentioned in the Holy Quran.
The meaning of a hadith is as follows:
“The most virtuous fast after Ramadan is the fast in the month of Muharram.” [Muslim]
“Whoever fasts on the day of Ashura will receive the reward of the [supererogatory] fasts that s/he could not keep that year.” [Deylemi]
“Oppose the Jews by observing Ashura the day before and the day after.” [I.Ahmed]
Attention! It is makruh to fast only on the day of Ashura and for one day. It should be kept one day before or one day after! If possible, silat-ur-rahim can be performed.
If possible, one should visit close relatives and please them with a gift or various assistance.
On the day of Ashura, one can engage in useful knowledge. In the hadith; “Whoever sits for a while on the day of Ashura, in a place where knowledge is learned or Allahu ta’ala is remembered, will enter Paradise.” it was commanded.
In addition, the Holy Quran should be read and those who have an accident should perform the accident prayer.
Charity can be given today. Giving alms; It is sunnah, it is worship.
In the hadith; “On the day of Ashura, whoever gives alms even an atom’s weight will receive a reward as large as the mountain of Uhud.” it was commanded.
(Attention! It is a sin to cook ashura by saying “Cooking ashura today is an act of worship”! Because there is no such form of worship. Knowing that cooking ashura is not a worship specific to today, cooking ashura or making another dessert today will not be a sin; it will be a reward. This must understand the details well!)
Today, greetings can be given more than ever.
Today, children can be made happy.
In the hadith; “He who provides ample support for his family members on the day of Ashura will have ample maintenance throughout the year.” it was commanded. (Beyheki)
Today, small groceries can be taken home. If this is done, there will be abundance in the house for a year.
Today, prayers can be recited and supererogatory prayers can be performed.
Especially due to the Gaza genocide, praying for the salvation of the Ummah of Muhammad (pbuh) has become much more important on this year’s “Ashura Day” compared to other years and should not be neglected!
