Halal is an Arabic word meaning “permissible” in Islam. The concept of Halal is not limited to food products today; It addresses a wide range of sectors such as finance, textile, pharmacy, cosmetics, logistics and tourism. The target audience of the Halal products market is a Muslim population reaching approximately 2 billion, and it is estimated that this market will reach 3.6 billion people in 24 years with the current annual population growth. Currently, it is seen that countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Russia, America, and the European Union are among the active countries in the Halal market.
“It is estimated that โthe world Halal market will reach a size of over 10 trillion dollars, including the food and beverage sector, Islamic finance, Halal tourism sector, Halal cosmetics sector, and Halal clothing.โ
The Turkish economy, which has reached an export figure of 10 billion dollars in the Halal food sector, can raise its target even higher. Big targets can be planned for 2023 in terms of Halal production and export made through the private sector. In 2023, it can be aimed that the number of companies that will produce Halal food will reach a thousand and the number of companies that will export Halal products will reach 500. Halal food exports, which are currently around 10 billion dollars, may be increased to 15 billion dollars in 2023. The only problem in Turkey is the codex legislation, which is translated from the west and uses in both imports and domestic production, and the accreditation legislation that does not aim to protect the rights of Muslims. First of all, the government should seriously consider these codices and the new accreditation legislations that are to be introduced and make them Halal.
